For allegedly failing to consider him for promotion in the past 10 years, an aggrieved officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service NIS, Mr Daniel Makolo has dragged the Civil Defence, Fire,
Immigration and Prisons Board before the National Industrial Court. Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau is the chairmen of the current board. Makolo in a motion ex parte filed before the court is seeking an order restraining the immigration service, the board and the Controller General of Immigration from “carrying out any promotion exercise pending the hearing and determination of this writ of summons, thus maintaining the status quo ante.” Dambazau had Monday in Abuja decorated 16 newly promoted Deputy Controller Generals in the Nigeria Immigration Service NIS, Nigeria Prisons Service and Deputy Commandant Generals for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC. Days to the decoration, there had been grumbling among some senior personnel of the services who felt short-changed in the process, saying many of their colleagues were excluded from the promotion examination ostensibly to pave way for the emergence of “some anointed candidates”. Some of the aggrieved officers said while they had spent over five years on their ranks, those who had spent just a little over two years were elevated, adding that in the immigration service alone, no fewer than 28 eligible officers were affected. Vanguard checks however showed that some of the officers were sidelined on the basis of quota as there are many qualified personnel from either the same state or zone.
